Messaging & Collaboration Etiquette

• You have one conversation per person — new messages continue the same thread.
• First-time messages from someone new land in a Requests folder; once you reply, the conversation moves to your main inbox.
• Read receipts show when a message has been seen, and you can see when the other person is typing.
• A conversation shows whether the other person is on verses.lol right now, and when they were last here if they aren't. Turn your own off under Settings → Public Profile → Identity → Visibility.
• You can attach any file— audio, images, video, and project files or zipped sessions from your DAW. Up to 25MB per file, or 1GB on Premium, and up to 5 files at a time.
• Audio plays in the thread. Images and video open full-size when you click them, and everything else — zips, sessions, stems — has a Save button on it.
• Pin conversations you're actively working in, and archive ones you're done with.

• Every new message rings the bell in the nav bar and plays a tone. Mute the tone, or change it, under Settings → Notifications.
• A message request also puts a dot on Messages. It stays until you reply, archive it or delete it — so a request can't sit in there unnoticed.
• If a message sits unread for half an hour, we email youso you find out even when you're not on the site. It's one email covering everything waiting, not one per message, and it never includes the message text. Turn it off under Settings → Notifications.
• That email only covers people you've already accepted. A message request from someone new shows up in the bell and on Messages, and never sends mail.

Attachments are kept by size, not by plan. Anything 25MB or smaller stays in the thread indefinitely. Larger files expire 30 days after you send them, and the message shows the countdown the whole time. When one does expire, the message stays and says the file expired.

• Either person in the conversation can remove a file early — the message stays, the file goes.
• Deleting a message deletes its attachment too.
• There's a rolling allowance on how much you can send: 10GB every 30 days on Free, and 200GB on Premium.

The composer can pull a track straight from your Vault instead of uploading a file. It arrives as a player in the thread — cover, waveform, play — and the other person hears the current version without downloading anything.

Only the two of you can play it. It isn't a share link and it doesn't make one; nobody else in the world can open it. If you want notes on it, or a link that outlives the conversation, use a share link instead.

On Premium you can change what you hand over before you send it:

• Send part of it.Drag a window out of the waveform, the same way a teaser link works. We cut a clip and send that — the rest of the track isn't in the file they get.
• Let them download it. They get a Save button. Anything that plays can be recorded either way, so treat it as a courtesy rather than a lock.
• Set an expiry. After a day, a week or 30 days, the audio you sent is deleted and the message says so. Your Vault track is never touched — what expires is the copy that went into the chat. If you also allowed a download, a copy they already saved stays theirs.

• Lead with specifics: what you're working on, what you need, and your timeline.
• Reference the listing or track so there's no guessing.
• Agree on scope, delivery, and any split or price before work begins.
• Keep the important parts of the deal in the chat, so both sides have a record.

• Be cautious with anyone rushing you to move the deal off-platform.
• Remember verses.lol doesn't hold payment — protect yourself by agreeing on clear terms.
• Report anyone who harasses you or behaves abusively.
• Block ends the messaging both ways, including a thread you already have — neither of you can send in it again, and neither of you can start a new one. The history stays readable for both of you; nothing is deleted.
• Blocking is not silent to the person blocked: they aren't notified, but if they try to send they're told the message can't go through. Unblock at any time from Settings → Account → Blocked, their profile, or their card in the directory.
